FEEDING/SUPPLEMENTS

***UNDER CONSTRUCTION***

Feeding:
A staple diet should consist of mainly coarse greens such as plantain, dandelions, weeds and other low protein fibrous foods, a small amount of fruit can be offered but this should be only about 10% of the diet.

Commercial Tortoise Diets: There are many pelleted Tortoise diets available in the shops, these diets are unsuitable for Spur-thighed Tortoises due to being very high in Protein.

Supplements:
A good supply of calcium is vital for the long term health of a tortoise, and can be found in different forms; Calcium Carbonate, Lime Stone Flour or Grated Cuttlefish. This should be given daily sprinkled on the feed.

Vitamins are also needed and vitamin powders such as "Nutrabol" or "Vionate" should be regularly given. A small pinch on the feed 2 or 3 times a week for juveniles and once or twice a week for adults is sufficient, too much can be just as bad as not enough.
